Hello and Happy Holidays to all.  It has been quite a while since our last post and we wanted to give everyone an update of our travels and The Shine Project Foundation.  From El Zonte, El Salvador, helping the local Primary school with Shine backpacks of school supplies, we headed to south out of El Salvador, through Honduras, and to Nicaragua.  We visited a small fishing village in northern Nicaragua named Jiquilillo.  There we met, Joey, a Floridian who came to this area a few years ago to help the community and youth in need.

Our hope is to keep in touch with Joey so that The Shine Project Foundation can help with future outreach projects.  From there, we traveled to Managua to visit our extended family and then onto Popoyo.  We had a bit of a scare and unfortunately Kirra had to have an emergency appendectomy back in Managua.  Happy to report that she has recovered well from her surgery and is now healthy.  With that scare, we couldn’t wait to get to our new home in Costa Rica which was only 6 hours away from Managua.

Yes, with clearance from the doctor for Kirra to travel, we finally crossed the border into Costa Rica and reached our home in Playa Avellanas on September 5.  What an adventure! In these last few months, we settled into our cabina which is located right by our property, transitioned into living in the jungle and rainy/dry seasons, and adapted to a new way of life.  Playa Avellanas is a beautiful remote beach away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist town, Tamarindo.  It is very quite, peaceful, underdeveloped, and unspoiled.

We have slowly gotten to know our whereabouts, neighbors, and local communities.  There a couple of schools close by that we are hoping to visit and help soon.  We have become members of Tamarindo Church and will be participating in upcoming outreach projects.  And we are getting to know and will be volunteering with a local organization, CEPIA, Culture, Education, Psychology for Infants and Adolescents.  We will be planning to host a Shine beach event in the spring for local families with special needs children.
